Postpartum Pilates can begin as soon as you are cleared by your doctor for exercise; around 6 weeks. The focus during Postnatal Pilates is to strengthen, restore, and realign the body. We do this by working from the inside out; retraining the powerhouse (deep core muscles) to function optimally. We will test for diastasis recti and if present, appropriate exercises will be given to safely realign the abdominal muscles to the correct position.
Postnatal Pilates also teaches moms how to move efficiently and safely, such as picking up a car seat and carrying a child correctly. This is vital for those with Diastasis Recti as incorrect movements can make the separation worse.
